From April 18 to May 18 2019 – Wednesday to Saturday 15:30h-19h
Opening – Thursday April 18 2019 – in the presence of the Artist

For his third solo exhibition at in)(between, he presents a selection of about sixty vintage gelatin-silver prints – photographs taken about 25 years ago, while Takehiko revisited the places where he lived temporally, on and off, during his childhood when his father was working there. Places that marked his childhood and always pulled him to return north, not just that physical north to where Japanese go seeking peace, but the place where he could revisit his inner-soul while looking thru his photographic memory – a succession of trips into the cold north, so cold that his camera would freeze, chasing his childhood memories, and soul searching – Some œuvres from his Hokkaido series were first exhibited in 1999, Photo dimension – Higashikawa Bunka Gallery – Hokkaido. Some of those photographs came to be his book Sakuan, Matapaan – Hokkaido.

About Takehiko NAKAFUJI

Disciple and close to Daido Moriyama, Takehiko Nakafuji made his first steps as a photographer in Tokyo, in 1995, with his series “Night Crawler”, composed of snapshots of Tokyo nightlife life. Despite the success of the images taken in Tokyo, Takehiko chooses to distance himself from this city, which he says is “huge and elusive”. He traveled to Hokkaido a place that marked his childhood and always pushed him back to the north – a succession of trips into the cold north, so cold that his camera would freez, chasing his childhood memories, and soul searching. Some of those photographs came to be his book Sakuan, Matapaan – Hokkaido. He also took distance from Japan by traveling to Eastern Europe, Russia, Cuba and the United States – trips that generated hundreds of portraits and street scenes in black and white that became his series “Street Rambler” that he has been enriching for over 15 years.
